H5TTO in Malta
On Saturday the 14th September we flew from Eindhoven airport with 17 students and 2 teachers and arrived in Malta just after 13.00. It was hot and humid but luckily we stepped onto an air-conditioned bus that took us to our hostel. We received information about the internships and then went up to our rooms to unpack. After this we had free time to explore our surroundings and go for a swim or something to eat.
The next day we had a cultural tour and visited the market in Marsaxlokk, Mdina with the Knights of Malta show and the capital city of Valletta. Here we walked around the beautiful city and saw some of the famous sites.
From Monday until Thursday the students visited their internship placements where they had to put their English into practice while getting a taste of the working environment in this foreign country. Most of the students found their experiences worthwhile and even though getting around Malta by bus turned out to be quite a challenge for some, everyone learnt something valuable from their time spent on this unique island.
On Thursday evening we all had dinner together and then headed back to the hostel for a swim or to pack up before the last day, which we spent at the Blue Lagoon on Comino. The boat trip on the way out took a bit too long, but once there everyone had a fantastic afternoon swimming in the crystal blue waters. The return trip by boat was shorter but at the same time a bit rougher and one of the students ended up “feeding the fish”.
On Saturday morning we were all up and ready by 4.00 in the morning and were picked up from the hostel to go to the airport. All went smoothly and we arrived back in Eindhoven tired and a bit sunburnt, looking forward to sleeping in our own beds. All in all we can look back on our trip with a great bunch of students, with pleasure, knowing that they managed to put their English skills to good use. Thank you Marlon, Maarten, Vivian, Shashi, Lars, Pleun, Nina, Casper, Kevin, Clara, Evi, Sven, Maud, Fenne, Jente, Davida and Dennis for a great trip!
