Friday 17 May the Junior Ambassadors of the EPAS programme at the Philips van Horne visited the Junior Day in Nijmegen. This is an event for all the ambassadors of the 85 Dutch EPAS schools.

As EPAS stands for European Parliament Ambassador School the programme of the day included a talk by a member of the European Parliament. She informed us about her work and answered lots of questions from the participants. Another keynote speaker was the Mayor of Nijmegen, the city that hosted this conference. He made it clear to us that as Mayor of this city, which is ten times as old as our country, he supports international cooperation and is an advocate of the European Union with values such as safety, freedom and prosperity.

In between these speeches we had two workshops. The first one was by a refugee ambassador. He told us his personal story, that started in Aleppo until he had to flee because of the bombing. After an ordeal in Turkey and in Greece he luckily found his way to the Netherlands. Although this was the country he really wanted to stay in it took quite a while before he was officially recognised as a refugee. We were all impressed by his story.

The other workshop was about how to handle the consequences of climate change.
