Nienke, one of the very first TTO-students at the Philips van Horne, offered to share her ideas about bilingual education and its advantages with the present TTO-students (including her younger sister) at The College Weert. On March 28th she gave a presentation to TTO-groups A1E, A1F and A2A at the Collegezaal about the time she was studying at the University of Victoria in Canada. Being a student of International Business, Nienke was expected to study abroad for six months. Canada was her first choice because she wanted to improve her English and go to a country she probably wouldn’t go on holiday to. She talked about cultural aspects and the friendliness of the Canadians. After the exams she travelled with a friend along the western coast of America.
Nienke emphasized that her TTO-background had really made it a lot easier for her to read and understand the English texts she had to study. She told the first- and second-year students that it was absolutely useful to study the glossary lists.
She concluded her presentation with a quiz about Canada. There was a small prize for the winners of each group. Zie fotoboek.
