Twenty-seven year old Tatyana paid The College a visit to tell TTO-students about Russia and her Maths studies at TU Eindhoven on 16 April.

She told a lot about Siberia, where she grew up. At the age of 14 she went to a boarding school in Novosibirsk, 600 kilometres from where she lived. This meant she only saw her parents once every two months. She told the students about the Siberian climate and its nature. She showed them a lot of pictures of Siberia and her trip along the Trans-Siberian Railway, all the way to Kamchatka.

She has lived in the Netherlands for three and a half years now and is studying mathematics at the Technical University in Eindhoven. She participated in the annual Modeling Week organized by the postgraduate program “Mathematics for Industry” during which students of the program and applicants come together to work on a project: modeling a real world problem by using mathematical relations. She emphasized that being able to speak proper English is very important while working together with students of many different nationalities. Afterwards she said she was impressed by these young TTO-students (freshmen!) who didn’t seem to have had any trouble to understand her talk.

Tatyana ended her interesting talk with a short quiz and a small prize for the winners. Check photobook.
