On Friday the 19th of September PH3E went to Kölner Zoo together with one other class from our school.

The bus trip didn’t take long. I ate some candy, talked to my friends and before we knew it we had arrived at the zoo. Upon our arrival a group photo was taken.
We got our tickets from the teachers and they handed out a stencil with assignments, which we had to finish within 5 hours. So we had enough time to have some fun too.

The zoo, built in the inner city, is a mix of old and new habitats for animals. The zoo has many different species of animals from all around the world. All the animals had sufficient space in their quarters except for one bear. Looking at the bear, which was all alone, living in a small area like an island surrounded by a moat, really gave a sad impression.

In general the zoo just has regular animals which can be found in every zoo, like elephants or meerkats (stokstaartjes). But the zoo does distinguish itself by having a habitat for hippos and crocodiles, called Hippodrome, which is very impressive because of its underwater view. The most stunning part of the zoo was the big aquarium, terrarium and insectarium, which had a large collection of extraordinary fish, reptiles and nasty insects including a big ant farm.

I had a really nice day, the weather was good and I had great fun with my classmates.
