On the 7th of March four of our TTO students took part in the regional round of the annual Junior Speaking Contest which took place at Metameer College in Stevensbeek. This year's theme was 'simply speechless'.
Jens Vossen (A2H) and Famke Langedijks (A3H) were representing The College. Jens gave a strong speech about music, and how it might be the key to stopping wars and promoting world peace. Famke gave a wonderful and touching speech about Alzheimer's disease, and how it had affected her family personally.
In order to perform the best possible way in the regional round, teachers Miss Neijnens and Mrs Van Grimbergen had instructed and supported both students with structural tips and tricks on how to perfect their speeches.
Femke Pijs (H2A) and Gielijan van der Laan (H3A) were representing The Philips van Horne. Femke, who spoke about food and all its glorious properties, also shone light on the negative aspects of the subject in a superbly performed speech. Gielijan spoke about the development of mankind and how it is both positively and negatively affecting our planet in his brilliant speech. Femke and Gielijan had received a similar instruction as Femke and Jens on how to perform speeches and structure them well by their teacher Mrs Kempen.
The audience consisted of all the necessary support. Parents, students and teachers were all there to support the participants, whom had all practised incredibly hard for their speeches. All in all 12 schools took place in this regional round.
All four of our students performed outstandingly. Sadly, they didn't get through to the next round, but they can be proud of their performance!
